What to Look for in a Great PCW Demonstration

A strong demonstration is not a magic trick. It is an opportunity to watch a skilled practitioner make many small decisions in real time.

What this means in practice

When viewing a demonstration, look beyond the most memorable line. Notice the beginning: how does the practitioner establish a workable relationship? Notice the transitions: when do they slow down, summarise, challenge or invite a different perspective? Notice the ending: how is the learning linked to life outside the room?

It can help to watch the same clip more than once, each time with a single question in mind. First watch for language. Then watch for pace. Then watch for the client’s responses. Rewatching turns a performance into study material.

The most useful question is often not ‘Could I say that?’ but ‘What made that response possible at that moment?’ That question keeps attention on relationship and context.
